After solo pastorates at churches in Southwest Iowa, the Rev. Don Fisher came to Second Presbyterian Church as the Associate Pastor in 2004. Biblical studies, pastoral care, mission, and communication are at the center of his ministry. He was the chairperson for several years of Missouri River Valley Presbytery’s Nicaraguan Partnership Committee, and his global mission interests have fit well with Second’s Guatemala partnership and mission commitments.
Don and his wife, Laurie, have two grown sons (a San Diego school teacher and a Denver insurance agent). Six months of living in Costa Rica when the boys were young was a significant shaping experience for the entire family.
Don has degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. in New Testament Studies from Wheaton Graduate School, and his M. Div. from McCormick Theological Seminary. He counts service in the Air Force and a short career as a warehouseman for Tyndale Publishing (surrounded by pallets-full of Living Bibles) as key steps along the way toward pastoral ministry.
Don’s passions include the KC Royals and Chiefs, college football and basketball, Doonesbury and Zits, walks among trees, gooseberry pie (especially if he can pick the gooseberries), and Estes Park Donut Haus donuts.
