Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women (PW) gives women the opportunity to study, to serve, to support and be supported and to fellowship in circles, mission outreach and other activities throughout the year.

PW continues to grow and change to meet the needs of women today. Every woman at Second Presbyterian Church is part of the whole body of "Presbyterian Women" within our congregation and is invited and welcomed to participate in any way in the life of Presbyterian Women at Second Church.

As stated in the The National PW's Purpose
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves

  • To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study.
  • To support the mission of the church worldwide.
  • To work for justice and peace.

To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

2011 Thank Offering --"for God satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things"  Psalm 107:9.
Since 1888 Presbyterian women have expressed gratitude for God's blessings by sharing their blessings through the Thank Offering.
We will continue this tradition on Sunday, November 20.  The Presbyterian Women's Goal for the 2011 Thank Offering is $1 million 40% of which will go to hospitals and health-related ministries.  The 2010 offering which raised nearly 3/4 million dollars funded immigrant community workers to assist new immigrants with basic living needs; trained birth assistants for Haitian women; provided low-cost cars repairs for homeless Washington families; and completed a boarding school for girls from rural areas of Madagascar  Please give as you are blessed.

PW Studies
For Everything, a Season--and the season is NOW!
All women of the church are invited to participate in the Horizons Bible Study, For Everything a Season:  A Study of the Liturgical Calendar, written by Kathleen Long Bostrom.  The study uses texts from the Hebrew Scriptures, the Gospels, and the Epistles to illuminate the importance of spiritual time in our busy lives.  As Joan Chittester reminds us, "The purpose of time is to alert us to ourselves so that we can become the only thing it is really worth our time to be:  a totally human, human being."

So take time to attend one of the monthly Women's Bible Studies:
-Tuesday Evening Circle meets on the first Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Celtic Room.
-Wednesday Morning Circle meets on the first Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Meeting Room A.
-Thursday Circle meets the first Thursday at noon in the parlor (Brown Bag Lunch).
