Mission in the City
The church’s physical location is significant, placing our talents at the crossroads of the city and its myriad opportunities for engagement and service. Second champions a variety of service initiatives in Kansas City that include food pantries, AIDS ministries, housing projects and social justice initiatives designed to build racial harmony, quality public schools and nurturing neighborhoods.
Beyond the KC area, Second also provides assistance to missions and other projects in Pakistan, Guatemala and across the world through the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
Mission News
This Sunday Second will celebrate two significant events.
First, we will present our second capital mission gift to The Children’s Place. Our gift will fund about fifty percent of the cost of a new "Outdoor Learning Center" for children with developmental and mental health needs due to child abuse, neglect and other trauma. Second, following the 10:15 a.m. service, we’ll celebrate the completion of our 2009-2011 Capital Campaign with special breakfast goodies during the coffee hour. Please plan on joining us this Sunday to celebrate.
Gift to Community LINC
Our gift of $80,000 to Community LINC to buy medical equipment for their expanded Wellness Center was a wonderful opportunity for us to collaborate with and celebrate God’s work in our community. What a tremendous Sunday it was. if you have any pictures from yesterday’s service, we would love to use them on our web page. Now we look forward to our next gift to Children’s Place and our continued partnership with both of these friends in mission.
