Tired of Winter? Ready to Garden? |
| |
The Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee has signed up for a few of the community garden plots (12’ x 4’) being made available by DST Systems at the corner of Main and 51st Streets. Several more plots are still available, so depending upon the number of Second Church gardeners wanting to join the project, the committee would ask for a few more. The recipients of our produce have not yet been determined—probably a food pantry, community center, or one of our mission partners in the city. Suggestions are welcome. Interested gardeners should contact Bill Dickinson (816-333-6363) or Laurie Fisher (816-268-4770 |

Meanwhile we still have a great need for blankets and other linens. We are out of men’s underwear (all sizes) and crew socks as well as undershirts/T’s. We are also in need of women’s undies (sizes 7-11) and women’s bra’s (sizes 36-42). Warm pj’s for both men and women are needed as well as robes. As always, we thank you for your generosity.

Recycle! |
| |
Thanks to the initiative of the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee and the persistent effort of Don Weeks, SecondChurch now has an additional recycling bin for the use of the church, church members, and the neighborhood. It is important that we use it according to the guidelines (what can be recycled and what can't).
The two bins sit side by side in the northwest corner of the parking lot. Please, when present, pick up any trash you may notice. Help keep the area clean.
Use the original (west) bin for PAPER ONLY: newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper.
Use the east bin for the following:
Aluminum - cans, foil, pans (rinsed)
Plastic - bottles (rinse please): milk, juice, soda, water, detergent
Steel - food cans (rinsed) and empty aerosol cans. Labels ok.
Cardboard - flattened; brown paper bags, paperboard. (No wax coating, no packing peanuts or plastic packing material.)
Phonebooks
NO GLASS, TRASH, OR FOOD-CONTAMINATED ITEMS

How and Why - Electronic Giving |
| |
Save time, simplify your life, and support your church all at the same time! Second is keeping up with the times by offering our members a new way to give. Our new Electronic Giving program is an automated program that will allow you to make contributions in the same manner that many already use to pay other financial commitments.
Here is how this new giving option works:
You authorize a specified amount of money to be electronically transferred directly from your checking or savings account to the church's account. You also specify the frequency of the transfer.
It is fast, safe, and easy! In fact, it is less risky than checks, as it cannot be lost, stolen, or destroyed. The electronic transfer will cost you nothing. Your regular Contributions Statement will reflect your gifts for your tax records, and your bank statements will provide you with a record of transfer as additional proof of your contributions.
One simple and easy to use authorization form can begin or change your electronic contribution amount.
The authorization form and additional information are both available by contacting the church financial office or printing it from this website.
